LAMBIA
ILIA - PELOPONNESE GREECE
Lambia is a picturesque mountain village, built at an altitude of 500 meters above the canyon of the river Erymanthos.
The villages seven settlements are all located all over the mount Lambion, with its delighful spring fountains and the unique landscapes.
The old Byzantine church of Agia Triada, which was built in the 14th century, is of great interest and well worth visiting.
The church is part of the villages graveyard, and its Byzantine architecture in the shape of a cross, with the big dome and the decoration with the impressive icons and frescoes dated from 1786 is extremely impressive.
Also worth visiting in Lambia is the monastery of Ano Divri, which was built in 1667, at an altitude of 1000 meters inside a fir forest near to the village.
During the Turkish occupation of Greece, the basement of this monastery was operating as a secret Greek school.
