KILLINI
ILIA - PELOPONNESE GREECE
The small country town of Killini is approximately 43km to the northwest of the
city
of Pyrgos. It is one of the most important ports in Greece. Ferry boats arrive and depart from the port, heading to islands in the Ionian such as Zakynthos ( Zante ) and Cephalonia.
Killini itself is connected with the cities of Pirgos, Amaliada and Lexena by the KTEL buses as well as the OSE train network.
The town was built on the ruins of the ancient city Kyllini, which was built by the Arkades ( a tribe from the mount Kyllini Zirea ) and was developed as a port serving town for the ancient city of Hilis.
The town was famous from the ancient years, for its natural spas and baths. Today the entire tourist industry is based on spa holidays, with a selection of large hotels and accommodation facilities for the many visitors who holiday here.
